“When I was four years old, they tried to test my I.Q.
They showed me a picture of 3 oranges and a pear.
They said, which one is different? It does not belong.
They taught me different is wrong.”

-Ani Difranco, “My IQ”

I’m different.

I’m usually the loudest one in the room. When I laugh, you can probably hear it two miles away. I have really weird interests. My career is pretty unusual. My sexuality doesn’t fit neatly into any of the available boxes. So much about me is exceptionally different.

I used to think these differences were my biggest weaknesses and felt very insecure about them for many years. I desperately wanted to be accepted by my peers and spent much of my life trying to be the person I thought other people wanted me to be.

Today, I realize that these differences are actually my SUPERPOWERS 💪.

When I let my superpowers shine, a magical thing happens. People who love me and think I’m pretty cool, just the way I am, are now drawn to me like a magnet. Conversely, the people in my life who weren’t that great of a fit for me started quietly showing themselves the door. My superpowers attract the most magical tribe, and I am so grateful for that.

My life is so much better today because I made the decision to let my superpowers shine.

What are your superpowers? Let’s celebrate them in the comments 🎉.
