When it comes to personal growth, it’s easy to fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to others.

We scroll through social media and see the highlight reels of our friends and acquaintances, and we can’t help but feel like we’re falling behind.

But the truth is, the only person we should be comparing ourselves to is ourselves. Specifically, we should be comparing ourselves to who we were six months ago.

By comparing ourselves to our past selves, we can take stock of our progress and identify any areas that need improvement. We can celebrate our successes, no matter how small, and use them as motivation to keep going.

Additionally, we can take note of any areas that have not improved or have gotten worse and use that information to adjust course and set achievable goals.

By acknowledging our progress and focusing on any areas that need improvement, we can develop a more positive outlook on life. Rather than feeling inadequate, we can see ourselves in a positive light and believe that we have the power to grow and change.

Comparing ourselves to others can be a trap that leaves us feeling inadequate and stuck. When we focus on comparing ourselves to our past selves, we can celebrate our progress, identify areas that need improvement, and develop a more positive outlook.

The next time you find yourself comparing yourself to others, remember that the only person you should be comparing yourself to is the person you were six months ago. With each small step, you’ll continue becoming the best version of yourself.
